Govt lists emerging Covid-19 success stories

New Delhi: Amid all the grim news on Covid-19 , success stories have also emerged from several districts for their efficient management of the pandemic. Ranchi's handling of returning migrants to Pathanamthitta’s Corona RM software and Sircilla geo-tagging of quarantined patients are among the 20 success stories highlighted by the National Centre of Good Governance in its discussions with the states this week.Kerala’s Pathnamthitta finds place on the list for ‘Corona RM’ software to create a database of Covid patients and their contacts.Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu set up a call centre with multilingual staff to address grievances of migrant labour.Village Vigilance Committee Call Centres were set up in each village- run by over 1100 volunteers and members- to ensure social distancing and quarantine facilities in each village besides maintaining supply of essential items.Dakshin Kannada district in Karnataka started early with door to door surveys to check for people with symptoms, those with co-morbidities and helped generate map clusters and patterns more clearly- which ensured a high degree of COVID 19 surveillance.Ranchi which suddenly saw migrants return to the state, launched the ‘Tatpar’ initiative – assigning dedicated vehicles to pick travelling migrants from various locations, provide footwear, food and medicines, conduct screening for COVID and facilitate transport to other neighboring dates.Hazaribag set up community kitchens with the help of local bakeries and roped in NGOs for food distribution. The district administration also worked with the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society to make over one crore re-usable cotton masks through the help of women self help groups. Several states followed suit.Jabalbpur set up a team to ensure social distancing was maintained even as activities opened up. An app, Jabalpur mart, was created for ensuring door to door supply of essentials. Jaipur stands out for its special helpline for senior citizens.Even as they battle intimidating numbers, COVID 19 hotspots also find mention in the list of 20.Agra which saw the first COVID cluster in the country when a family returned from Italy with the virus, worked on a model for door step delivery of essentials in 100 wards of the city.Mumbai initiated the strategy of using pulse oximeters for vulnerable sections and a targeted approach for congested areas and slums with poor distancing facilities.New Delhi district’s passenger screening mechanism at Indira Gandhi International airport and the paid quarantine mechanism are lauded as is Central Delhi’s Mobile Covid testing van initiative for its outreach in congested areas.
